According to a poll conducted by Lifeline, almost two thirds of Aussies have lost sleep in the past year due to anxiety.

Here are 5 simple ways to beat those blues:

1. Walk

No matter where you are, a short, brisk walk can clear the head and calm the nerves.

2. Express yourself

Vent to a friend. Talking helps you find a solution and put things in perspective.

3. Smile

Even if you have to fake it. Visualise your happy place to release natural stress relievers.

4. Breathe

When you feel overwhelmed, stop and remove yourself from the space you’re in, close your eyes and take a few long, deep breaths to help you back to a relaxed state.

5. Smell

Lavender offers an instant calming effect. Dab on your pillow at night, or into a hanky to keep with you during the day.
